Arm Lift

Fluctuations in weight, age and heredity may cause the upper arms to droop and sag, which is not correctable by exercise.

An Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) is a surgical procedure that:

  • Reduces excess sagging skin that droops downward
  • Tightens and smoothes the underlying supportive tissue that defines the shape of the upper arm
  • Reduces localized pockets of fat in the upper arm region

Brachioplasty may be right for you if the underside of your upper arms is sagging or appear loose due to excess skin or weight loss. Liposuction may be required in addition to arm lift for additional contouring.

A good arm lift candidate is:

  • An adult with significant upper arm skin laxity
  • An adult whose weight is stable and who is not significantly overweight
  • A healthy individual without medical conditions that impair healing or increase risk of surgery
  • A nonsmoker
  • An individual with a positive outlook and realistic expectations

Smoother, tighter contours resulting from arm lift surgery are mostly apparent after the procedure. The final result evolves over months after initial swelling and bruising resolve. A scar will remain where the incision was made and has to be managed appropriately for optimal results.

Like every surgery, Arm lift includes risks, such as risks from anesthesia, bleeding, fluid collection, infection, poor healing and wound problems, unsightly scarring, skin loss, residual or recurrent looseness of skin, contour irregularities, damage to deeper structures such as nerves, blood vessels and muscles, fat necrosis, numbness or other changes in skin sensation, suboptimal aesthetic results, and the possible need for revisionary surgery.

Good results are expected from Brachioplasty but are not guaranteed. In some situations, it may not be possible to achieve optimal results with a single surgical procedure and another surgery may be necessary. Results of Brachioplasty will be long-lasting, provided that a stable weight and general fitness are maintained. With age, some firmness may be lost, but most of the improvement should remain.

Dr. Gbulie will fully discuss Arm lift surgery and other options with you and guide you through the decision-making process as well as the surgery and recovery.
